Children injured in Brooks County dog attack; mother discovered deceased
Tragic Incident in Brooks County: Two Children Injured in Dog Attack, Mother Found Dead
BROOKS COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - A horrifying incident unfolded in Quitman on Thursday evening, leaving two children injured and their mother dead, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
The attack occurred on Thursday, May 9, on Webster Street at a bus stop behind the Brooks County Middle School. The juveniles were rushed to the hospital following the reported dog attacks.
Courtney Williams, 35, was discovered deceased in the yard of the residence, as per a GBI report.
The GBI is leading the death investigation, stating:
“When deputies arrived, they encountered several aggressive dogs on the property. It was determined the juveniles had already been transported to a local hospital by a private citizen. Deputies subsequently located the body of Courtney Williams, a white female, 35 years of age, in the yard of the residence.”
Speaking with WALB, a neighbor expressed her sadness over the tragedy, occurring just days before Mother’s Day.
”I do feel for the family and for the kids because now they are going to have to celebrate Mother’s Day without their mother,” she said.
Some Brooks County residents revealed that they have been consistently voicing concerns about the need for more robust animal control.
“People dump dogs all over the county and no one can get help with them because there’s no county animal control. Praying for this woman’s family. This is so sad,” one resident stated.
The GBI is currently conducting an autopsy to determine the official cause of death. The case remains active and ongoing. Stay tuned for updates on air and online.
